What is a school council?

A school council is group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school.

At St Peter’s the school council is made up of seven pupils, one from each class who represent their class on a weekly basis to  discuss school matters and make decision on behalf of the other pupils. The school council are responsible for organising and planning events, meeting visitors and representing our school.

Year One

‘ I want to do important jobs.’

‘I want to listen to what the children in my class want and I want to change things.’

‘I want to really help others and be a really kind person.’ 

Year Three

‘ I want to make school even better.’

‘I have lots of ideas for the school and want to make it an even better place.’

 ‘I will work really hard at school council and be kind.’

‘I want to help raise money for charities and also help make our school better.’


Year Six

 ‘ I can be sensible when I need to be and I can have fun and a laugh. I will listen to other people’s ideas on how to make changes in school.’


‘ I would like to represent our school and make people feel safe and that they are part of our school.’
