Primary School Admissions

What are the Admission Criteria?

For Community and Voluntary Controlled Schools, the admission criteria are the same as in previous years. This means that we will allocate places in the following order:

  • Children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs which names the school;
  • Children in the Care of a Local Authority;
  • Children with a medical or psychological reason for attending that school;
  • Children with elder siblings attending the school;
  • Proximity – nearness to the school.

How do I apply for a place, when can I do it and when do I find out about my place?

You can apply for a school place online for both primary and secondary school places. The closing dates and notification of decisions are as follows:

  • September 2017 – Information on how to apply is distributed to parents.
  • 15th January 2018 – Deadline for applications. Applications received after 15th January 2018 will be treated as late applications.
  • 18th April 2017 – Emails will be sent after 2pm. for those that applied online. Letters will be posted for those that have applied by application on 16th April 2018.

Transferring from another primary school

All parents/carers irrespective of where they reside who are seeking ‘in year’ places for schools in Bury Authority, will be required to apply direct to the school.

Parents/carers resident in Bury wishing to transfer to a school in another Local Authority must contact the relevant authority for information on how to apply for a school place.

Parents/carers must complete an application form (CAF3). The application form is available from school, the Local Authority and the council website at www.bury.gov.uk/admissions.

The completed application form and any supporting documentation must be returned to the first preference school.

 

Secondary School Admissions

How do I apply for a place, when can I do it and when do I find out about my place?

You can apply for a secondary school place online. The closing dates and notification of decisions are as follows:

  • September 2017 – Information on how to apply is sent to parents.
  • 31st October 2017 – Deadline for applications. Applications received after 31 October 2015 will be treated as late applications.
  • 1st March 2018 – Emails will be sent after 2pm. for those that applied online. Letters will be posted for those that have applied by application on 1st March 2018.
