Geography & History

After running a ‘recovery curriculum’ to allow children to complete areas of the National Curriculum missed due to school closures, we are delighted to be running our usual topic-based curriculum again for History and Geography.

Please find below all the information you need about how we teach History and Geography through different topics and how this links in with our English curriculum. You can also take a look at the content for each year group on our medium term plans.

The EYFS framework is organised differently to the National Curriculum that is used for children in Year 1 to Year 6: it is organised across seven areas of learning rather than subject areas.

The tables via the links below identify the statements taken from the 2020 Development Matters which are prerequisite skills for  History and Geography within the National Curriculum.

The most relevant statements for History are taken from the following areas of learning:

  •        Understanding the World

The most relevant statements for Geography are taken from the following areas of learning:

  •        Mathematics
  •        Understanding the World

Children have the opportunity to develop early skills in History and Geography as part of the daily continuous provision and focussed sessions in our early years provision.
