Computing

At St Peter’s Primary School, computing is an exciting subject that helps children become confident, creative and safe users of technology. From their very first lessons in Year 1, pupils learn the basics such as logging in safely, creating simple digital stories and exploring how technology is used in the world around them. As they move through school, these skills grow each year so that by the time they reach Year 6, children are able to design games, build quizzes, use spreadsheets and even understand how computer networks and binary code work.

The curriculum is carefully planned so that each year builds on the last. Younger children start by sorting information, following instructions and learning simple coding. As they get older, they create digital artwork, presentations, music, work with micro:bits and explore big ideas like artificial intelligence. Alongside these creative projects, pupils also learn how to use technology responsibly—understanding online safety, recognising reliable information and knowing how to look after their wellbeing when using devices.

By the end of their time at St Peter’s, pupils can use technology with confidence and imagination. They are ready to take on the challenges of secondary school and the wider digital world.
