In the early years, children experiment with shape, line, and colour through the abstract paintings of Wassily Kandinsky and the natural sculptures of Andy Goldsworthy. As they progress into Year 2, they learn to create texture and blend colours inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, while Hannah Hoch introduces them to collage and composition.
In Year 3, children refine their use of colour and composition through Henri Matisse’s bold cut-outs, and practise observational drawing influenced by Giorgio Morandi’s still life work. By Year 4, they explore Picasso’s cubist portraits and learn clay techniques inspired by Hans Coper’s ceramics.
Upper Key Stage 2 deepens their skills further. Year 5 pupils blend watercolours in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe and experiment with vibrant geometric imagery inspired by Beatriz Milhazes. In Year 6, they study perspective through LS Lowry’s cityscapes and strengthen sculptural structures influenced by Antoni Gaudí’s architectural forms.
This carefully sequenced curriculum ensures children develop creativity, technical skill, and cultural appreciation.
