Religious Education

At St Peter’s, our Religious Education (RE) curriculum is designed to give pupils a broad and balanced understanding of a range of world faiths, while encouraging them to reflect on their own ideas and values. Across the year groups, pupils explore key beliefs, practices and traditions within Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Humanism. They learn to make sense of sacred texts and stories, understand the impact of faith on people’s daily lives, and make meaningful connections between religious teachings and their own experiences.

We aim to develop pupils’ knowledge of important themes such as creation, belonging, forgiveness, worship, celebration, justice and responsibility. Children are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, discuss different perspectives, and express their own views respectfully. They are also taught to appreciate the significance of rituals, festivals and places of worship, as well as the importance of values like love, kindness, honesty and community.

By the end of their RE journey at St Peter’s, pupils will have gained not only a deeper knowledge of a variety of religions and worldviews, but also the skills of reflection, empathy and critical thinking. These experiences equip them to engage positively with diversity and to contribute with understanding and respect to the wider world.
